Advert for Bubble's All-nighter.

Bubbles Night Club.

Location: The Horsefair, Hinckley.

Date: 1978-1979.

Bubbles (previously Tiffany's) now Zuu.

You would be forgiven for saying "'ere, that's Tiffany's", because you would be right. Mecca did one of their refurbishments, and renamed Tiff's as Bubbles... why Bubbles, no-one knows. Out came the golden chariot, and in when a state-of-the-art PA system, a new dance floor, new posh chairs and tables, and beefburgers instead of the now infamous chicken in a basket.

Bubbles was used as an All-nighter venue for about a year, following in the footsteps of the recently-closed Coalville Tiffany's. Supported by locals Nog (Neil Doleman) and Ada (Chris Adamczyk) and Jock (Jock McReynolds), DJs like Brian Rae, Gary Rushbrooke, Tony "The Vicar" Clayton, Dave Evison and Chris King played here regularly. The venue became very popular in the Midlands, due to the central location and the ease of access from all major motorways, and a only a ten minute walk from the train station.

Often, a double-header was organised where a pre-nighter was opened at the Spinning Wheel Hotel on Hollycroft in Hinckley, just half a mile from Bubbles. The Spinning Wheel was a 200 capacity venue on the edge of town, set back in trees, looking not unlike a Country Club. Mainly locals attended the pre-nighter, but it was a great warm-up leading to a 12 hour feast of Northern Soul!

As usual, our old mate Brian Rae was in attendance, and it appears that he liked the venues so much that he kept the press cuttings. They appear as accompanying graphics to his sleeve notes to the Up All Night! CD (Instant INS 5028).

The Bubble's All-nighters gave Hinckley the boost it needed, and put the town on the Northern Soul map. It was this venue that gave the HSC the impetus it needed to run it's own All-dayer at the Boy's Club.
